Your First Desktop¶
This guide walks you through creating and starting your first SAS Analytics Pro desktop.
Before You Begin¶
You'll need:
- SAS API credentials (Client ID + Client Secret)
- A SAS Order Number
Step 1: Add Your SAS Credentials¶
- Go to the Account page using the sidebar
- In the SAS Credentials section, click Add Credential
- Enter your Client ID and Client Secret
- Give it a label (e.g. "My SAS Credentials")
- Click Save
The extension validates your credentials against SAS before saving.
Step 2: Create a Desktop¶
- Go to Desktops using the sidebar
- Click New Desktop
- Fill in the Desktop tab:
- Name — a friendly name for this desktop (e.g. "My SAS Desktop")
- Credentials — select the credential you added in Step 1
- Order — select your SAS order number (fetched automatically from SAS)
- Cadence and Version — select the software version to use
- Click Create
Step 3: Start the Desktop¶
- On the desktop card, click Start
- The extension will:
- Pull the SAS Analytics Pro image (first time only — ~4 GB)
- Download and cache your license and certificates
- Create Docker volumes for data persistence
- Start the container
- Once ready, click the SAS Studio link to open SAS in your browser
First start takes longer
The first time you start a desktop, the SAS image needs to be downloaded. This takes several minutes depending on your connection speed. Subsequent starts are much faster.
What's Next?¶
- Configure mounts to access local files from SAS
- Enable auto-mount for quick access to all drives
- Explore tiers to unlock longer sessions and more features
